–Uttar Pradesh has outpaced Maharashtra in sugar production this year.
As on January 15, around 116 sugar mills of Uttar Pradesh have produced 35.50 lakh tonnes of sugar in the current sugar season 2016-17 (October-September), 31% higher than last year’s production data in the corresponding period.
On January, 15, 2016 in the last sugar season around 116 sugar mills were in operation and they had produced 27.07 lakh tonnes of sugar, according to ISMA.
In Maharashtra sugar production was at 31.43 lakh tonnes till January 15, 2017 against 43.79 lakh tonnes in the same period last yea.
Sugar output in the country was 104.80 lakh tonnes till January 15, in the current sugar season 2016-17, down by 5.92 lakh tons from last year.
